Causes of Bloating

Constipation is a typical cause of bloating. Due to the fact that one of the symptoms of constipation is having fewer bowel movements than usual, you may be suffering from it without realizing it. Even if you have regular bowel movements, you could still feel constipated. Other constipation signs and symptoms include:

  • Physical stress during bowel movements
  • Rock/Pebble-like-looking stools.
  • Not feeling empty even after the bowel movement

Abdominal pain and bloating may become worse because of constipation. The longer your stool remains in your colon, the longer it has to ferment due to bacteria, which causes increased gas and bloating.

There are many reasons apart from constipation that can cause bloating. Some are given below:

  • Gut sensitivity: Gas can make people with IBS highly sensitive, leading to discomfort, cramps, and diarrhoea.
  • Gastroparesis: This is a condition that leads to delayed stomach emptying, which can ultimately lead to nausea, bloating, and bowel blockage.
  • Gynecological conditions: In rare cases, the problem with your ovaries or uterus can cause bloating.
  • Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO): In the small intestine of most healthy humans, there are few microorganisms. People with IBS with diarrhoea, intestinal surgery, or both are more likely to have SIBO, which can result in bloating.
