Sweet potato, (Ipomoea batatas), is a plant of the morning glory family (Convolvulaceae) which is native to tropical America. They are a very popular delicacy in the winter (but are available year-round) usually served as a snack or within a chaat.
Its fleshy roots are served as a cooked vegetable, in whole or mashed form, and are used as pie filling. Sweet potatoes, because of their high fibre and dense composition have widely been used throughout India as a fasting food that satiates the hunger for long periods.
