Extra virgin olive oil, the least processed version of olive oil is known to be very high in an antioxidant called polyphenol. This antioxidant plays a key role in regulating systolic blood pressure (or the ceiling number of the blood pressure).

An Australian researcher concluded that in a group of 50 middle-aged people systolic blood pressure normalized drastically. Systolic blood pressure is what matters more when talking about heart conditions and strokes so a decline in this number would greatly matter to people with hypertension issues.
