About Steaming, Blanching and Sauteing of Spinach
Preparing and cooking Spinach

Spinach can be prepared in 3 easy ways.

  • Steaming

It quickly tenderizes and wilts the leaves down without the need for seasoning until after cooking.
  • Blanching

It immediately cooks the leaves in seconds and is most often used as an intermediary step for a dish.
  • Sauteing

It uses dry heat to develop flavour on the surface and uses other flavouring agents.

One of the risks of eating raw spinach is that it can contain E.coli, which can lead to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach pains. E. coli infection can be considered fatal, which is why it is very important to make sure you are careful when choosing to eat things raw, such as spinach.
