Sweet potatoes are rich in potassium. If they are consumed with potassium medications, they will surely increase potassium levels in the body leading to problems related to excessive potassium. People with Improper functioning kidneys would not be able to flush out enough potassium from the body and hence they must refrain from consuming excessive sweet potatoes to have them along with medications.
Those on a limited carbohydrate diet should also avoid sweet potatoes as they are rich extremely in carbohydrates. They are an excellent source of beta-carotene too, and their excessive consumption can lead to hypervitaminosis A (vitamin A toxicity), in which excess vitamin A accumulates in the liver. Although this is not considered to be harmful, there are consequences like the colour of the skin and nails might turn orange.
