"Carbohydrates provide energy to the body and are a wonderful source of several vitamins and minerals. However, not all carbohydrates are the same," says Donna Logan, RD, a registered dietitian at Houston's University of Texas Medical School.

Carbohydrates that are high in fibre, such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grains, are the best because these carbohydrates take longer to break down into glucose and provide you with the most nutrients while also providing you with calories.
