For the spiced moong dal filling: wash the yellow moong dal and soak it for 30 minutes.

In a pan, add the soaked dal with salt, turmeric powder, and one cup of water (use the water that the dal was soaked in). boil the dal in an open pan over medium flame for 10-12 minutes.

Test the dal's texture to check if it is cooked and soft yet whole and not mushy.

Turn off the flame and drain the water.

Transfer the boiled dal to a bowl and add red chilli powder, cumin powder, and additional salt. mix well and set aside.
