To prepare chettinad style prawn biryani, wash and clean the prawns. in a bowl, add ginger garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric, a few drops of lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. mix well and marinate for 15-20 minutes.

Wash the rice and soak it in water for a minimum of 30 minutes before cooking.

Heat oil in a large, thick-bottomed handi or pot. add the whole spices (black pepper, cardamom, black cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, and red chillies) and wait until they splutter.

Add shallots and saute until they turn pale in color.

Add green chili paste, grated coconut, and marinated prawns. mix well.
