Begin by soaking the red lentils (masoor dal) in 1/4 cup of water for 20 minutes.

Steam the ash gourd until it's tender. you can use a pressure cooker or a steamer for this.

In a blender, combine the steamed ash gourd, fresh coconut, green chilies, garlic, and salt. blend until you have a smooth paste. set this mixture aside.

In a saucepan, combine the ash gourd and coconut mixture with 1 cup of water. place it over medium heat and bring it to a boil.

As the mixture starts to thicken, add yogurt to it and let it simmer for another minute. make sure not to overheat or boil after adding yogurt.
